Rob Jenkins and crew bring a top six finish in a new car after last
minute preparation for the 100 lap feature at Southside Speedway. After
the previous disaster with the primary chassis, LEI Motorsports was
faced with a decision to either repair the chassis, or acquire another
chassis to finish out the season with. The decision was to acquire a
newer chassis in an effort to better the chances of winning races for
the remainder of the season. " It just made more sense," said Jenkins.
" It just seemed more cost effective to go with this option rather than
sinking money into an older chassis." With only ten days left to
prepare, the t eam
was faced with extremely long hours getting the new body and chassis
race ready. " There were a lot of obstacles to work around," said team
owner Bill Linyear. "We basically had to combine the two cars together
in a short amount of time with all of our busy schedules and this was
certainly easier said than done. Although we finished preparing the car
in time with the help of Stock Car products, there were still unknowns
of what to expect from this last minute effort."
Jenkins
would qualify the Mozely Rose Chevy in the 11th position with a time of
15.14. Shortly after the start of the race, Jenkins advanced quickly
into the top ten eventually making to the sixth position midway of the
race. Jenkins would lose a position to Greg Fernandez [02] on a restart
but would stay with Fernandez for the remainder of the feature." We were
a little tight," said Jenkins. " But it seemed to rotate fairly well
through the center of the corner. We'll make a few adjustments for the
next race now that we know what we're working with."
Roy
Hendrick went on to win the feature with Shayne Lockhart [11],
Chris Hopkins [43],
Chris Dodson [0], Greg Fernandez [02], and Rob Jenkins [89] rounding out
the top six.
