Jenkins finishes in the top six while advancing to the fourth position
in the overall points standings. Over the last two seasons, Jenkins has
clearly made a mark as a contender for the front of the field. Jenkins
finished the 2007 season 1 win, 2 top fives, 9 top tens, with a fifth
place finish in the points standings. The 2008 season has been much of
the same, lacking a trip victory lane. "I just want a dominant car",
said Jenkins. "I know we are capable of winning races if we can get the
car right." With only 250 laps on the new chassis, this team has picked
where they left off, but they still chase the opportunity to close the deal.
The day started off
with rain in the forecast for the early afternoon leading to clearing
skies overnight for
Southside Speedway's 150 lap feature. Jenkins qualifies the Mozely Rose
Chevy in the 10th position with a time of 15.26. After the start
of the race Jenkins rides the outside groove for several laps losing
positions to the preferred bottom groove. Jenkins would eventually find
a hole in the 15 position where he could settle in and get work. " I
couldn't get to the bottom", said Jenkins. " All I could do was wait for
something to open up and fall in line." Jenkins made several passes and
was noted as one of the fastest cars on on the track in the early laps
of the feature. Jenkins would eventually advance into the 7th position
closing on Brandon Hendrick [55]. Hendrick loses an ignition giving up
the 6th position to Jenkins. With laps winding down, Jenkins would hold
off charges from Shayne Lockhart [11], with Eddie Johnson [59] winning
the race. Chris Hopkins [43], Chris Dodson [0], Russ Ellis [07], Greg
Fernandez [02] and Rob Jenkins [89] round out the top six positions. |
