Jenkins had two good runs in the top seven in the first two features,
with a disappointing 15th place finish due to a parts failure in the
third feature after running up front in the second position.
The night of the
93.1 'The Wolf'
triple 30's. Most
racers dread these multiple feature events, but it remains a part of the
schedule that all of the teams must prepare for. Jenkins came into the
night fourth in points and was hoping for the first LEI victory on the
season. The night started with Jenkins qualifying the Mozely Rose
Chevy just outside the top ten with a time of 15.27. " I messed up in
both corners," said Jenkins. "We left a lot out there but we knew we
were faster than what we qualified." During the first fast paced
feature, Jenkins advances into the top ten up to the seventh position.
After avoiding a couple of incidents, Jenkins would eventually be scored
in the fourth position after a late caution. With handling issues,
Jenkins fades to the seventh position were he would finish the first
feature. " We weren't handling very good at all", said Jenkins. "The car
was drivable, but just a hand full." Doug Godsey [05], Chris Dodson [0],
Russ Ellis [07], Brad Davis [18], Roy Hendrick [39], Greg Fernandez
[02], and Rob Jenkins [89] round out the top seven.
After the first
feature, the team made several adjustments to the Mozely Rose Chevy.
During the first caution of the second feature, Jenkins comes over the
radio and says, "Much much better guys." The race continues with Jenkins
running in the top five and would finish fifth. Roy Hendrick [39], Chris
Dodson [0], Shayne Lockhart [11] Greg Fernandez [02], and Rob
Jenkins [89] round out the top five. Later the team found that the right
front was leaking down and had only 7 pounds of air.
The third
feature, Jenkins would hold the second position and while working over
Brandon Hendrick [55] to challenge for the lead. On lap 15, the right
rear spring bucket gives out leaving the 89 with virtually no right rear
spring for the remainder of the race. Jenkins would finish, but a lap
down in the 15th position. "The racing gods just weren't with us
tonight," said Jenkins." It's not over yet." Roy Hendrick, Shayne
Lockhart, Brandon Hendrick, Chris Dodson and Greg Fernandez round out the top five.
